Although you will likely not set foot in every room that a local funeral parlor features, you may feel more comfortable about using a particular funeral company, once you learn more about the parlor's layout.
A Traditional Or Modern Parlor
A traditional funeral parlor may feature an area for the funeral director and their family to reside in. A funeral director's job is taxing and it is often more convenient for this person to live at their place of business. A traditional style funeral home may look like a residential home. A home's facade may feature a standard porch, lawn ornaments, and lighting. The decor within the building may coincide with the construction style of the structure.
A modern funeral home may or may not feature living quarters. This type of business may have less of a residential vibe, but will still likely be very attractive and accommodating. Some funeral homes are massive in size. This may be due to the average number of funerals that are conducted there on an annual basis. A funeral home that is located in a busy region may serve several surrounding counties.
Interior Rooms
Your first visit to a funeral home will involve meeting the director in an arrangement room. An arrangement room is where you will plan a funeral service. This room offers privacy and comfort. Guests will be encouraged to mull over their options, without feeling rushed or pressured.
Preparation rooms are areas that customers do not usually enter. These rooms are where the embalming, dressing, and makeup services are performed. There will be an area where bodies are stored, both before and after they are prepped for a service. Prep rooms are where much of the dedication is upheld. It is what a particular funeral parlor is noted for. Funeral home clientele members will carefully handle each body that is in their care and will preserve the condition of the deceased.
Reception rooms are where funeral services are officially held. Some funeral homes may contain one reception area. A large funeral home may contain serveral reception rooms. Each room may be a unique size or contain specific design elements. A client can typically select the reception room that they prefer the most. A display room is where coffins, urns, memorial pillows, and other merchandise for sale is set up.
